Loading... Please wait...The Rolling Stones are not just an English rock band. They are a significant part of rock and roll history. They formed in 1962, in London, England. Ian Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar, backing vocals) and Ian Stewart (piano). With the addition of Bill Wyman (bassist) and Charlie Watts (drummer) their band was complete.
Ian Jones started off as the band's leader until Jagger and Richards assumed the position as the band's songwriters. Jones, in 1969, left the band due to medical and legal complications and also due to the fact that he was not contributing to the band. Three weeks after he left the band he drowned in a swimming pool. The Rolling Stones replaced Jones with a man by the name of Mick Taylor. He quit in 1974 and was replaced by Ronnie Woods, who has been with the band ever since. Since the beginning the Rolling Stones have released 24 US albums (22 in the UK), twelve live US albums (11 in the UK), and numerous compilations. An estimated 200 million albums have been sold worldwide.
This notable band is speculated to have bridged the gap between many different music genres which has made them so popular. Some of these mixed genres include: rock, reggae, folk, rhythm and blues, blues, country, and even dance. Recently, Jagger has said in an interview that there are no plans for the bands retirement in the near future. He assures that the world has not heard the last of the Rolling Stones. From the looks of it he wasn't joking. The Rolling Stones, during 2013, will be working on new projects, touring once again, having new studio sessions, and a releasing major documentary on their history as a band.
